Elaine Lonsdale with the Golden George Award
Elaine Lonsdale made her first bear in 1993 and after a very successful sell -out local show , she turned full time in 1994 and is currently celebrating her 10th anniversary in business as Companion Bears. During these ten years, she has won many major awards including
Many of Elaine's pieces are featured in many of the Teddy Bear museums around the world particularly those in Japan, South Korea and the USA. There is no doubting her ability to produce top quality award-winning teddy bears but what makes Elaine unique is her choice of colours and the quality and design of the outfits for her creations. As you will see from the selection of her soft sculptures in this web site, she has a unique and very distinctive style. Elaine approaches her soft sculptures as an artist would with a canvas. She hand mixes the dyes to achieve her unique palette of colours All her creations are made from hand-dyed natural fabrics of the finest quality - mainly silks , cottons and linen for the clothes and mohair for the bears.. The designs are inspired by the illustrations produced for children's books in the period from 1890 to 1930. This has resulted in Elaine making a very wide range of animals to complement her bears. She is particularly fond of animals which can be made to resemble humans by dressing them in appropriate clothes. Samples of these can be seen in the Animal Land section. In summary, Elaine has created a niche for herself in the marketplace and has earned the respect of retailers and fellow artists over the past decade as well as establishing customers all over the world. This web site is aimed at current customers as well as those bear collectors who have perhaps, not yet had the opportunity to see and possibly purchase one of her creations. Whatever your reason for visiting this web site, Elaine would like to thank you for your interest and hopes that it brings a little sunshine into your life by generating a smile or two.
